Week 55 and 56. La Pastora, Mexico.

Week 55: Here Comes the Heat

Well as you can see by that subject of this email that it is starting to warm up here. Today we hit 90 degrees and it made me remember how much I hate the heat here in Monterrey! Oh well one more summer here, I think I can make it out alive.
This past week we spent alot of time knocking on doors and finding new people to teach. We were able to find a group of people who are wanting to learn more about the gospel. It is interesting to see how God works to put people in our path to teach the restored gospel. This past week we also have had some investigators fall of the path. It is difficult to see people who have came to the knowledge that this message is true and still reject it. However, I know that the timing of God is perfect and maybe it just isnt the time for them. I have came to know and have a testimony of the words of Prophet Joseph who said, "The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done." We are living in the last days where it is our responsibility to recollect scattered Israel. Each one of us has the responsibility to work diligently in the Lords vineyard as stated in Jacob chapter 5. Dont be afraid to serve others and share the gospel. The promise is layed out in front of us. D&C states, "Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God;" "And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!". I promise that if we willing to share our testimonies, God will put the people in our path to share the light of this gospel! I hope you all have a great week! Take care.

Week 56: Last week with Elder Anderson

Well I think that its safe to say that the heat has begun here in Monterrey. I finally had to look in my bags for some sunscreen! This past week has been great. We had the opportunity to have a special conference with Elder Anderson. He talked alot about the importance of finding and teaching young people. I feel motivated to look for these people around my same age to come and experience the blessings of the gospel in thier lives. It is something that I have seen here in the mission. In my first area we baptized a girl named Karla of 18 years and now she is preparing to serve a mission. It is amazing to see that someone who is the only member in her family can have the faith to make the decison to serve a mission. Elder Anderson also challanged us to memorize 10 verses from the New Testament and 10 verses from The Book of Mormon. I have some memorizing to do haha! Anyways, it was nice to feel the spirit of the Lord with the presence of one of his apostles.
We have also done alot of service this pat week. The other Elders in our district are moving houses so this past week we helped them move out old furniture and paint thier new house. Its always a good break to do a little bit of service. We topped this past week off with a zone activity! It was great, we played soccer and volleyball. We also bought 15 kilos (35 pounds) of steak! Nothing better than a carne asada and a day of playing sports!
I would like to close by sharing the scripture found in 2 Corinthians 4:18. It says, ¨While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.¨ . Many of the things that are going to come to pass such as the resurrection, the eternal life, and being able to have an eternal family are things that during our time here on Earth we cannot see. However, we can have faith for these things here on Earth. This faith will always lead us to actions which through these actions, we will be worthy to receive all these great blessings from our Creator. At times we wont see our reward or the results right away. However I know that the verse in D&C is true that says, ¨I, the Lord, am bound when you do what I say, but when ye no not what I say, ye have no promise.¨ Hope everything is going good. I also added some pictures from the past week!

Week 54. La Pastora, Mexico.

Week 54: Transfers!

This past week has been great! We had transfers in the mission yesterday but Elder Bautista and I didnt have transfers. We are super excited to be able to stay together another transfer! We are hoping to work hard this next transfer. Elder Bautista and I have been finding alot more people to teach and alot more people who are willing to progress.
Today we had the oppurtunity to go and visit the soccer stadium here in Monterrey. The stadium is actually here in our area, its huge! I think that it holds around 70,000 people. Mondays are the best to get out and explore this huge city. México is really starting to grow on me!
This past week, I have experienced with the power of the Book or Mormon. We have had a family that hasnt been progressing very much, just listening to us for respect. We decided that we had to do something different, we ended up with the solution to read a chapter from the Book of Mormon with them. We read Alma chapter 36. As we came to read the verse that says, " And now, O my son Helaman, behold, thou art in thy youth, and therefore, I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me; for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day." After we read this verse in this great chapter we could see that they understood what they needed to do. Just put thier trust in God and he will do the rest. I promise that if we are willing to do all we can and be subject to the will of God, he will provide us with the paths that he wants for us. I am thankful for this time to be here in the mission to learn alot of important things about life and more than anything to share the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Take care everyone!

ONE YEAR!!!. La Pastora, Mexico.

ONE YEAR. ONE YEAR. ONE YEAR.

Well the time has came, I have completed one year in the mission! I have been in 4 different areas and have had 8 different companions. I am officially on the downhill slope. I have to be honest, the first year in Mexico went be very fast and I am worried that this next half will go by even faster. However, I have experienced many great experiences and memories here. I have learned this past year that the greatest things in life are the little things. I think in the past I was always living life in the fast lane, but I have came to learn to slow it down and enjoy the little things of life. Little and simple things like the sunrise, the nature of everything around us. God has blessed us with this beautiful earth to enjoy this earthly experience. I hope that we can very take advantage of these little things in our life!
This past week on the 31st Elder Bautista and I celebrated but buring a shirt and cooking up some steak. We also had our zone conference this past week and we had to give a training to a zone and everything went well! Today we went out for a hike to get out of the city! Always nice to enjoy the outdoors when you can, especially when you live in a city with 4 million people😂. Life is good my friends! Take care, hope all is well.

Week 52. La Pastora, Mexico.

Week 52: Almost one year.

This past week has gone by super fast. Each day was full of lessons with the people here. We have been finding alot of people here to teach which has been nice, however it has been difficult to find people that actually want to progress. My area has some of the richest parts here in Monterrey but we have came to find that we have been able to find more sucess in the poor parts of our area. We have been teaching alot of people out a colonia thats called " El Realito". This area has really reminds me of my days back in Juarez when I starting my mission. It is a very humble section so it is easier to share the gospel with them. I have came to know this verse from the Bible to be true. It says, "And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh."
I have came to realize how many of us need the gospel in our lives. It would be a very difficult world if we did not know where we came from, why we are here, and where are we going after this life. These kind of answers can bring alot of peace and happiness in our lives. We know that there is more life after this, for this reason, we need to work and keep the commandments of God. I am thankful and deeply humbled for this opportunity to be here in Mexico preaching this wonderful gospel to those in need! Take care everyone! #GodSpeed
